Sandy pencilOur third day in the Bracknell Forest area, and a trip to Sandy Lane Primary, to work alongside the children throughout the school, having spent time with the staff on Monday.

Thankyou to Liz Norris, headteacher, her colleagues and children for a fun day.

Well done all!

What style the children had: writing things in to existence, creating worlds of words in our minds too.

With a few staff we were discussing elements of online safety and other areas regarding the world of digits.

One of the most useful sites for getting across internet safety principals, is Childnet International.

They produce the excellent Know IT All resources, some excellent support for parents re internet safety, the ZCards on internet safety tips for primary and secondary students, ChatDanger, which looks at the potential problems with online interactive services, and much, much more…

Year 2 [rockyou 136493240]

To quote from their excellent Digizen site: “Digital citizenship isn’t just about recognising and dealing with online hazards. It’s about building safe spaces and communities, understanding how to manage personal information, and about being internet savvy – using your online presence to grow and shape your world in a safe, creative way, and inspiring others to do the same”.

gadwin-shottie-029One of the elements that it is hard to get across to children is the importance of copyright when it comes to music. It is so easy to share and multiply recordings these days and so easily avoid paying and, therefore, supporting artists.

Childnet’s Young People, Music and the Internet pages are comprehensive and really useful when discussing issues with students.

The Childnet leaflet “A GUIDE FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS ABOUT DIGITAL MUSIC AT HOME, AT SCHOOL AND ON THE GO” can be downloaded for free HERE

As well as the main Childnet site HERE view their resources, some of them in multiple languages, HERE.

The ProMusic site is also full of useful and well presented information regarding digital music copyright and more.

gadwin-shottie-001Many people will know of our friend Margaret, and her dog Stan. They travel with us in presentations and so much more.

Margaret, as ever, is leading the way with some innovative and creative ways of using a VLE.

Margaret is presenting at the Fronter UK User Conference Thursday 30th April, Emirates Stadium

Download the programme HERE.

By the way, have you checked if it is Tuesday TODAY??<–>

I spent the morning at Sandy Lane observing 2 sessions, year 2 and year 4. It was great to see such fantastic resources being used. Watching the two lessons was incredibly helpful and has certainly given me food for thought! The children obviously found the resources and teaching stimulating and achieved a lot in a short time. The teaching strategies were great and more importantly, doable. I look forward to trying them out in my own classroom. A fantastic morning!
