Rhondda – Oracy Into Writing Project Launch Day 1

| November 18, 2009 | 18 Comments

rhondda 002The launch day of  The Oracy Into Writing Project, which will see us returning, to carry on the work started today, and to work in schools in the region.

We are grateful to Mark Carrington and his colleague head teachers, for their superb organisation of this project.

Today we were joined by over 170 staff from schools around the region, here at The Rhondda Heritage Park.

Blaengwawr Primary, Cefn Primary,  Cwmaman Infants, Darran Park Primary, Glynhafod Junior, Llanhari Primary, Llwynypia Primary, Oaklands Primary, Parc Primary, Pentre Primary, Penygraig Junior, Penyrenglyn Primary, Pontygwaith Primary, St Margaret’s RC Primary, Trallwng Infants, Tylorstown Primary and Cadoxton Primary.

The venue features a superb ballroom-like conference area that double up as venue for wedding receptions. As we set up last night, we were not alone. A remarkably proactive family were rigging out the room for some nuptials on Saturday. The theme of the event is due to be based around a theme of Narnia. (The bride’s dress is apparently going to be in the style of The Snow Queen!) The room today, therefore, was bedecked with icicle lights and, even a wardrobe!!

rhondda 035Panoramas

I can’t, as yet, find any 360 degree panoramas of Rhondda, (maybe just because, like most men (!!), I have been looking with one hand! ) but there is a glorious one of the Monmouth and Brecon Canal Basin. It comes from the excellent Cardiff 360 site which provides a 360 degree full-screen interactive virtual tour of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales.

There are over 100 full screen 360 degree virtual tours on this site. You can explore the City Centre and Cardiff Bay by using the interactive map or by simply selecting an area of Cardiff from the gallery section.

After last week I went straight back to school to try some work on the panoramas. The standard of language used was so much better. Here’s a couple of the sentences used: The dark shadows lurked upon the dusty, rough rocks. The foggy icy mist stretches across the dull grey mountains. Thank you!

  18. Beccy says:

Thanks for a great day! Got some lovely ideas and Ive just made a multimodal powerpoint for my top year 2’s. (without the prompt sheet from sarah). Now ive made one its easy to do and doesn’t really take as long as I thought it would.
