rutland 001A pleasure to be invited to lead the FLiR (Future Learning in Rutland) Conference at ‘Barleythorpe Training and Conference Centre’ near Oakham, today, with a focus on ‘Creativity in the Curriculum’.

John Wasteneney from ‘StrategICT’, an independent consultant and trainer involved in the organisation of today’s event, had these thoughts on the day:

“The conference marks the end of the initial FLiR (Future learning in Rutland) consultation and planning phase, but more importantly launches the commitment of schools and the local authority to providing world class educational provision for the 21st century.wordle2

The FliR group examined the principles, values and beliefs that underpin the contemporary educational milieu and defined a series of belief statements that underpin the following vision

In Rutland we believe that an education service of the highest standard is essential to empower all learners to achieve personal and academic

excellence while developing their full potential as responsible, productive citizens.
The real impact however is will be the experience of learners over the next few decades. Whilst we cannot pre-empt what learning will look like in the distant future we do aim to provide an enriching experience that is flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of all learners.
The theme of the conference is ‘creativity’ which we hope will enthuse and inspire teachers and other education professionals in the local authority. Tim Rylands as our keynote speaker brings a wealth of experience putting into practice innovative and creative ideas that impact hugely on learning and pupil outcomes.

Tim and Sarah Neild also provide practical insights into effective classroom activities through their workshop sessions.

rutland 001Thank yous to Kevin Brooks for inviting us (Kevin describes himself as ‘the chap who goes on about ICT), and to Claire Smith, Learning Administrator/ICT Co-ordinator, for looking after us and sorting out our travel arrangements, and so much more.

What a super ICT conference! Well done to everyone who organised it.
I was really inspired by Tim Rylands Keynote and his workshop. I can’t wait to get into school tomorrow and use some of these new sites to inspire children’s learning and writing. I hope Rutland will be able to organise a training day for schools, with Tim, in the near future:-)

  2. Do you have any video from this conference? We are setting up something similar in Arizona and would love to see how things went.

    hi Derek,
I don’t think there were extended videos made of the event. There were short clips that are going to edited in to a longer overview. If you would like me to get in touch with the organizers, please let me know. In the meantime, perhaps you would like an inspiring speaker at your event? 🙂 All the best for now. Tim

  4. Kevin Brooks says:

    Hello Derek,
As you might gather from the pictures from the event there was some video footage captured by a team of Year 8 students which included Tim’s keynote and some of the workshops. I would be happy to send you the conference programme and related details, drop me a line with your contact details. Regards. Kevin
