A relatively short journey for us today, to spend the first of a two day visit to Cadoxton Primary School in Barry, South Wales.
A huge THANK YOU to Chris Myers, Cadoxton’s headteacher, for coordinating this training event, and for inviting us to his delightful school, with its enchanting pupils, and staff.
As a part of today’s training, Chris made arrangements, not only for all of his staff to attend the lessons, but for visiting teachers, from neighbouring authorities, to be apart of the sessions, – mucking in, sharing ideas, scribbing and of course, the opportunity to visit ‘other people’s schools’.
The day started with 45 Year 3 pupils in the hall.
This was followed by 43 Year 1 pupils. Each session included nearly half as many teachers/TA’s/LSA.
Then, in the afternoon it was the turn of the Year 5 pupils.
Here, Chris Myers gives his thoughts on the day:
What a day we have had here at Cadoxton Primary School- Tim Rylands working with children, staff and quite a few visitors.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this exciting day’s learning, with Tim, at his best, inspiring our children to think creatively and, consequently, producing some of the most imaginative pieces they have ever written.
We know some of our children do not always relish the thought of getting their pens and pencils ready to create a masterpiece. As a school, we have been working with a number of authors and story tellers recently, with the aim of getting our children writing with smiles on their faces, and similes in their work.
During the day the teaching staff were able to see how he gave the children the confidence to let what words they had in their minds appear on paper.
Our hope was that Tim would show us his techniques using the program “Myst III”.
The “Myst Man”, as some know him, gave far more than that.
