Smithills School, Bolton: Day 1

| June 15, 2010 | 0 Comments

Smithills School, Bolton, and the chance to work with lots of students who were, again, “Up for a challenge”.

Thanks go to Chris Roberts (headteacher) and Ben Bramwell for giving us the opportunity.

The morning was spent with 75 Year 7 pupils for a 3 hour block! These students shone with their enthusiam and creativeness, producing stunning pieces of descriptive narrative, and then in contrast, using Garageband, recorded their short pithy phrases to express their feelings, as they explored the contrasting landscapes in Myst IV:Revelation.

In the afternoon 2 further sessions, one with a further 70+ Year 7 pupils and the other with a similar number of Year 8’s. It was a tight time schedule, but a true pleasure to interact with so many, exploring to world of words in such creative ways.

And then after school, a twilight with the staff members sharing and exploring ideas about ways to motivate and engage learnings. We now look forward to tomorrow and another packed day working with further groups of students and staff.
