Rotherham ICT Conference

| July 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

Today we had the pleasure of attending the Rotherham ICT Conference at the Magna Science Adventure Centre , delivering a keynote speech and three workshops.

A busy, informative, ‘hands on’ event bringing together the best practice in ICT from across Rotherham schools. The Exhibition Zone included live demonstrations of cutting edge technology from over 30 exhibitors. The School Showcase Zone gave examples of good practice in all aspects of ICT. e.g animation, film making, from schools in Rotherham, including the Champion ICT Schools. Throughout the day in the Conference Zone, workshops and seminars had their focus on developing effective classroom practice and on learning and teaching. The finals of the Podcasting competition also took place and Student Journalists and Cub Reporters were on hand to report on the conference.

It is always a pleasure to meet up with Ollie Bray and he was a fellow “keynoter” today.

Ollie has been a school leader, head of department and is an award winning teacher. His current interests include social media in schools, computer games in education, mobile technologies, school design, outdoor learning and 21st century school leadership, …and “strong coffee”!

Ollie was a true pro in coping with a power outage in this huge venue, just before he delivered his excellent session. Not thrown at all.

And, what a joy to share a stage with Dave Benson Phillips. Dave being one of the most popular children’s presenters on TV it was lovely to hear him laugh warmly, and generously, during my keynote.

Dave was kind enough to share some thoughts on the presentation:

We also had the chance to work with some small, select, groups of teachers, from across the authority, in practical workshops, looking at the power of other techniques, in motivating and inspiring children of all ages, and abilities.

Some of the Rotherham schools exhibiting today showed real style in what the presented. The whole event is an example to aspire to. Well done all.

A very entertaining presentation, game some great ideas for developing a creative and engaging use of ICT in the classroom. Already passed your useful links onto the staff at school and we’ll see where it goes from there. Cheers.
