For Safer Internet Day …and beyond…

“As more of our life happens online, Internet skills are crucial to living responsibly.

What are the skills needed to navigate today’s Internet society? How can parents and educators teach themselves, their families, and their communities about important topics like identity protection, fraud detection, and digital citizenship?

ThinkB4U is a collaboration between Google Inc. and safety partners Common Sense Media, ConnectSafely, and the National Consumers League.

Tackling some of the biggest learning curves thrown at the average user in a fun and interactive way”.

Explore videos, interactive objects and targeted messages, set within different regions. Each location — Home, School, Mall — includes several video shorts about a modern family’s experience online.

You determine which path the family members take at the critical decision point. Do you text that to your friend or buy that ukulele? These shorts are just snapshots of more complicated issues. But, they all attempt to address a fundamental message of taking a moment to think before acting.

As you view each video, you can collect interactive objects! An object opens up a quick game about the subject of the video. Once you collect the object, you can access it at anytime during your session.

If you want to find out more about the subject, just click the link below each message. This will open up a pop-up with tips, advice, and links to additional external resources.

Investigate online purchasing, scams, the annoyance and intrusion of digital experiences, and some of the positive benefits of living (carefully) with our technology.

This is set in America, and does have some intriguing idiosyncrasies (!), but could be useful in many settings.
