ICT to Inspire, Kirkby 2.2 ~ Kirkby Sports College

| March 21, 2013 | 1 Comment

Our second event in this return trip to work alongside the great staff from schools in The Kirkby Collaborative. Today, we had a secondary focus, spending time with colleagues, and students, from Kirkby Sports College.

What a great bunch! We started with some analog responses to a digital stimulus ~ some more wandering in the world of words. The students showed some imaginative, inventive flair.

One of the most enjoyable sessions, with children of a secondary age. Why? Many reasons, but one of the most important factors, most definitely, was how courageous these students were. In other words, they showed remarkable, shared, confidence, in allowing mistakes, and moving on from them. Let’s make better mistakes – tomorrow”

Thanks to Steve Christer, curriculum leader, literacy, at HASCL (Huyton Arts and Sports Centre for Learning) one of the visiting colleagues from nearby schools, for his thoughts on today:

Tim and Sarah have worked their magic again! I saw them last year at St Michael and All Angels Primary in Kirkby using MystIV to teach creative writing. It was an inspiring day that was followed up with useful web sites to use in the classroom and lesson planning to promote literacy. Today was a real privilege to see Tim working with Year 9 students at Kirkby Sports College (thanks to The Kirkby Collarborative). The students were fantastic and the work they produced was amazing!

I subscribe to Tim’s Blog and get daily updates and links to wonderful sites such as: Visuwords, Tag galaxy, Wordle, TypoEffects, Lexipedia etc. which I now share with the whole staff at my own school. They are fantastic when developing opportunities to promote opportunities for oracy (very high up in Ofsted’s new framework!)

Absolutely Fantastic!!

Folk here at Kirkby Sports College, are up for challenges. In using some digital tools, to consider in a practical sense, the clear message was how these things are going to continue to enhance learning, in many areas, across subjects, ages, and abilities. It’s not what they use. It’s what they say. Communication rather than technology.
