Omniglot ~ Exploring idiomatic language & more

| September 4, 2013 | 0 Comments

Omniglot, explores the wondrous idiosyncrasies of languages. To drive very fast, or accelerate, can be expressed as Appuyer sur le champignon (“to press on the mushroom”) in French! How might other nations say that it is raining cats and dogs?

“Një gjuhë asnjëherë nuk është mjaft”, or “One language is never enough“, in Albanian. Maybe this is  牛皮燈籠 點不明 (nghàuhpèih dānglùhng dím bātmìhng) “as unclear as a leather lantern”, in Chinese (Cantonese).

Check out this chart of colour names in other tongues. As easy as falling off a log! It’s all Greek to me!
