TeachMeet Pompey #TMPompey, HMS Victory, Portsmouth

TeachMeet Pompey, and more chance to explore some of the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth too!

A big Thank You to our hosts David Rogers (@daviderogers), Jo Debens (@GeoDebs) and Phil Wright (@fubar2u_2000)

#TMPompey is a relaxed affair, and started on HMS Victory for a drinks reception. Such low decks meant we were all stumbling after only orange juice (yer honour). Then over the dockyard for the presentations which went from 6:30 (ish), until the brave headed off for Laser Quest at 8:30 (ish)!

“Learn something new, be amazed, amused and enthused”.

This is an informal gathering of those curious about teaching and learning. Anyone can share great ideas they’ve trialled in their classrooms, ask important questions or simply sign up to take part in learning conversations. Education professionals from all sectors are welcome to take part.

The main part of TeachMeet is hearing stories about learning, from teachers. This is not an event to present about a product or theory – this is a chance for teachers from all types of establishments to hear ideas from each other. Real narratives of practice that make a difference.

It is about being engaged and inspired by our immediate colleagues and a whole bucket load of networking to boot!

Lots of learning and LOADS of laughter!

Teachmeet presentations are short, which is one of the good things about them! Attendees can simply come along & watch or ideally offer to give a 7 minute micro presentation or 2 minute nano presentation, showcasing something they’ve found useful in their classroom practice.

7 minute presentations includedVideo feedback on students’ writing” from @CharlotteLovie, from Highbury College; “Improving writing with 100 Word Challenge” with Julia Skinner @theheadsoffice; “Desmos: Free Beautiful Graphing for Everyone” b y Nik Doran @nik_d_maths; “7 Creative approaches to developing independence and learning: free/poundlandpedagogy” shared by @shornymorgan; and a session on “Messing about with photos” from Ian Addison @ianaddison

2 minute presentations came from Nikki Gilbey @nikkigilbey in a whiz called “Bag Task Exam Prep”; Andy Teague @MrTeagueSci told us of “Plenaries with a difference”; Phil Wright @fubar2u_2000 shared some things about learning in different places; Naomi Ward @naomi7444 got us thinking about philosophy for children; Charlotte Hamilton @cha_hamilton showed us her “bag full of bits”; and @kohlmand Danielle Kohlman flicked through “Purple Pages of Progress”!

Things went at such a pace that we haven’t managed to capture what really happened! (More to follow…) BUT there were so many speedy presentations, sharing some remarkable, and inventive ideas. Thanks all. Special.
