Victoria Primary School, Penarth ~ Day 2

| October 11, 2013 | 24 Comments

Our second day with the folks at Victoria Primary School, Penarth, today with invited colleagues from St Andrew Major Primary, Cogan Primary and Fairfield Primary for an INSET.

Before our visit, we asked Tina Taylor, the headteacher, to explain her thinking behind inviting us to her school:

The school has invested in mobile devices to support learning and we are committed to use ICT hardware and software as effectively as possible in all areas of learning.

The two day training programme is exactly what we need at this point in our learning and teaching journey. Individual staff members have previously attended training and agreed that the first-hand experience of working with the children and with Tim and Sarah would be inspirational, motivational and challenging.

And, it is that mix of analog, and digital, that is powerful. We have to keep our focus on the learning that can flow from a digital stimulus, or by using a digital “tool”. As Tina says, it is effective application of technology that creates the best results. If we become too wrapped up in the latest gadget, the most sparkling new toy, or resource, our eyes are blurred to the important element of quality learning, and experiences, that that wizardry can enhance.

We whizzed through a vast array of technological possibilities, but were joined by some amazing educators who were analytical, positively critical, and astute when thinking about how that tech can have a massive impact on standards, confidences, and creativity, in children of all ages and abilities. Well done all. Thank you.

We are so grateful to Tina, and her colleagues, for the detailed planning they put in place to make this visit run so smoothly. Even the air freshener was called “Insette” ~not a bad choice for a professional development, or INSET, day!

Tim and Sarah,

Thank you so much for two outstanding and exceptional training days where you really have inspired us all. Having read the comments here and spoken to my staff, I can’t wait to go on my school Walkabouts to see some of the wonderful ideas in practice. I’m sure the children will be as motivated as the staff. Excellent value for money, thank you.

Tina

Thank you so much for a wonderful day, so inspirational and informative. As I’m not a class teacher, I’m currently working out how I can incorporate your ideas into my ICT lessons, and as I’m currently teaching Year Six about Powerpoint, I think I might well ditch the intended lessons for a traditional slideshow and do ‘the doors’ adventure book.

    Many thanks!
