St Andrews CE Primary

header-e1407573574837Great, to be invited to spend two, full-on, days at St Andrew’s CE Primary School, Springfield Street, in Oswaldtwistle, a town within the Hyndburn borough of Lancashire, England, on the course of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, 3 miles east-southeast of Blackburn.

Joining us today were colleagues from Peel Park Primary, St John with St Augustine C of E Primary and St Philip’s C of E Primary.

I contacted Tim because I recently started using Twitter (@standrewscep) and I was reminded of some amazing training we had with Tim at an NAHT conference in Manchester in 2012.  I loved the way he used technology to inspire the children to write and be so creative.

St Andrew’s was a good school in 2012.  Two days before Christmas 2013, we had another inspection (it should have been section 8) and we were found to require improvement.  I have been at the school since 2001 and school has improved beyond recognition in that time.  Unfortunately our results in 2013 didn’t reflect this and reading and maths results were below floor targets. In 2014, we have improved the results for reading and maths, but writing was very low.  It took us a long time to get to good and it feels as though we are back to square one.

As teachers we have been working so hard with every area of teaching and sometimes we burn out from too much feedback, marking, and pressure to do things well!  Teachers who have been with me on the journey to good are ready to be refreshed with new ideas.  Newer teachers will benefit from learning new teaching techniques.

I wanted to invite Tim and Sarah to our school to bring back the enjoyment of teaching and watching as our children realise that they can write and use their imagination.  I am hoping that the use of technology with Tim and Sarah will really encourage them and they will learn without realising it!  I have been looking forward to these two fun-filled days.
