John Hellins Primary, Northamptonshire ~ Day 2

John Hellins Primary School

John Hellins PrimaryA really fun day at John Hellins Primary and travels through mysterious lands, with the children across different age ranges of the school.

A darkened room, dancing sound effects, haunting music enhancing the atmosphere, and we’re ready to go who knows where?

Today, we wandered in the world of wondrous words, with the children and staff, more a large amount of individuals in each session, yet, at times, you could hear a pin drop. Then, when an unexpected feature sprang to life, bubbling discussion and fizzing talk.

Our aim, on these two sessions in this group of schools, is to share tools, and techniques, that will add even more sparkle, magic and effective methods of bringing learning alive, to the toolkit that travels with the children and teachers.

One of the most rewarding ways to spend your working days. Teaching is a hard path, in many respects, on many occasions. Hours of extra preparation, planning and reflection. But, as Confucius said:

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”.

Thank you to Jodie Matthews, Headteacher at John Hellins Primary School, for inviting us to work alongside the children and staff.

Well done all.

    Hi Tim and Sarah,
What an amazing two days. Truly inspirational! The training day was filled with SO much information, so many ideas and so much food for thought. Day two was an absolute joy – to see how the children responded with so much enthusiasm to your ideas, suggestions, thoughts etc was truly magical. I know you said “take one thing” and I shall try very hard to follow your advice but there is so much I WANT to find out more about.
Thankyou too for your willingness to answer questions and to put yourself in the spotlight – you both made it look effortless – and it was anything but! I shall certainly be recommending you to all I come into contact with.
Big thanks too to an amazing group of children – they certainly did John Hellins proud 🙂

A great two days, lots to go away and think about, and put into practise. Thanks very much.

Thank you for a highly informative day and a half packed full of useful signposts to current – and mostly free – resources which engaged not only the children, but the adults too! There was audible delight as dinosaurs and elephants joined us in the room. Supported by Sarah, Tim was highly entertaining and the day flew by.
Day two was an excellent opportunity to see Tim in action with ‘real live children’ and witness just how engaging Tim and Sarah’s recommendations truly are.

Thank you very much for the last two days. The training was truly inspiring. I have already taken away lots of ideas and today the children loved exploring the fireworks (which really blast off when you touch them). We also looked at tag galaxy this morning as a talking point to start our literacy lesson. There were lots of ooohs and wows filling the room when the photos started emerging. I look forward to using more of the ideas in the future.

    Thank you Hayley. Very thoughtful
