It is always lovely to get sent work springing from one of my visits. Folk have sent me everything from art work to films. So, thank you, today, to Helen’s class, at Oxford school, Muenster, Germany

After thoroughly enjoying your training at the ICT conference in Hamm, I’ve boldly (or baldly :-) ) led some training in school following your example. I felt so exhilarated by the positive response from the teachers at school, but more importantly from the response from the kids in my class. I teach year 6 at the moment, and I just wanted to share with you some of their writing.

Thanks

Helen

I love the idea that the marble ledge was worn down by centuries of intrigued elbows! Spot on! That really conjures up a picture of people standing in that room, surrounded by beautiful mystery doesn’t it?
Well done to P.F and C.C

Great little find advertising the Lollapalooza Festival.
(Sadly for me, the festival is on 03.08.07 in Chicago.)
It reminds me of a project I did with my children where we used digital images of them in rock star poses, and then dressed them in fabric outfits.
It doesn’t always have to be 100% digital.

Thanks “F.C.Hammer” and sorry it wasn’t in black then buddy!

Well done too “Bexstar” and “Kat”
Anybody else still got theirs?
Why not send me a scan and we’ll add to the gallery?!

Go “E” Go Go Go!

A superb thought jogger to go by the printer courtesy of Adrian Bruce, an award winning chap who is known for his generosity with his innovative learning materials.

Adrian has a similar philosophy to me, that, if you have an idea that works, the best way of finding out what else you can do with it, how it can be developed and used best to the advantage of our children, is… share it!
Adrian’s site contains a vast amount of genuinely useful, inventive and imaginative ideas, games, posters and interactive elements. His site is subtle about its “donationware” basis but, if you find anything “free” out there, it is, at least, manners to give credit, or, better still, show your appreciation in other ways.

(Oh yes… and like me he is a big fan of brackets too! :-) )

Nigh Swan Gizmodo!

I keep chunnering on about Samuel Pepys, but, when the old boy was writing his diaries, he did not suspect that ANYBODY else was going to read his lascivious ramblings. I admire the man for sitting quietly in his private chambers of an evening and recording his impressions of life as it was for him. Who would have thought that anyone would Pepy at THIS blog when it first started, but now it receives hundreds of (manual) searches a day and scores more via RSS feeds.

NOW… why are YOU reading this and haven’t thought about responding to this post, or others, with a comment?

That is something that people are bringing up with me a lot: Blogs are still mainly written and read by folk rather than actively contributed to. Still…

The web is moving from black and white to colour - from text alone, to video and rich images - now it is our chance to join in - and visibly.

I get many e-mails a day from all around the world. I actually think that is better than leaving a comment in MANY ways, (personal, thoughtful and quietly encouraging) but … go on don’t be shy… if you are here, (or any other of the many edu-blogs) jot your thoughts down in comments as well, hey?

To those of you you who send me such kind, encouraging e-mails… please don’t stop either…

Mr McIntosh always picks out a few gems and is worth a comment.

Hang on! Rylands, you hypocrite! How many times have you read Ewan’s fine witterings and left without a murmer??!!

“You’re a fine one to comment!”

The first “not rocket science!” of 2007 but, if you missed the old ones:
Simply: I am often caught saying it…
All your “It’s not rocket science!” spottings always relished.

Thank you to Alex from Edinburgh for this one.
